Oh the Irony!!

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

So here I am currently awaiting for my residency application to stay in New Zealand. Time is dragging on, the expiry date of my current permit has drawn ever so close. To the point where I run the risk of being booted out of the country….

After going through several hoops and learning some complex circus skills (it seems) I have now managed to get a new interim work permit which allows me to stay for a further six months whilst my residency application is considered, here’s the catch – I am NOT allowed to travel overseas as I have not been given a new visa….

It’s funny how to coin twists its face from one direction to the other….

In other news I now know how to make a killer cheese sauce from scratch with no sachets in sight!

Glandular Fever Maybe???

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

So I resumed work on the 22nd February almost a full month after being signed off work with severe swollen glands, fatigue and a temperature. Whilst I have never received a positive diagnosis from blood tests taken in A&E on the 5th February all the symptoms fit.

Taking each day as it comes.

I was unlawfully evicted last night just to add to my adventure ;p I won’t go into detail here, just in case legal proceedings are required to preserve the private rights of all parties concerned, although mainly me. I am still reeling in shock and I am extremely lucky I have such a caring pseudo-family nearby who have taken me in.

In other news thanks to my illness I have lost yet another 1/2 stone, putting me firmly under 85Kgs.

A Taste of Taupo

Saturday, January 30th, 2010

So – amidst getting over one of the most persistent viral bugs I have ever had the misfortune to suffer, I figured I would sort out a couple of my photo’s from recent travels, whilst it will take me a good while to upload them all I thought I would share this one –

There will be more to follow as time allows… gonna upload most to Facebook first though :)

I is eggsited!!

Tuesday, January 19th, 2010

So, this weekend I am trundling up through to Lake Taupo (the remains of one of the largest volcano eruptions in New Zealand) in order to watch a jousting/medeival festival which seems to be very popular in this part of the world!!

This isn’t the only reason I am eggsited though, in order to get to this lake I will have to pass by Mount Ruapehu…more popularly known to the rest of the world as Mount Doom from Lord of the Rings!!!! I am hoping for some clear weather with it being our summer and all, by the time I hit the desert road so that I can take some snaps on my camera.

Whilst in this neck of the woods I am going to take the opportunity to take in some of the geothermal attractions around the place, from 90 degree lakes, to bubbling mud pools and such….

This is the real New Zealand for me!!

The trip of a lifetime…

Thursday, December 10th, 2009

As always I am waaay behind on my Christmas preparations, although in direct contrast to last year I am actually sending some pressies both to Hong Kong and to the UK this time around, this is possibly the most organised I have been in my entire life…. thanks largley to one of the grounding forces in my life right now (looks in Rachael’s general direction).

Speaking of organised, I have just put the finishing touches on the itinerary for my (our) South Island Tour of New Zealand. Which is to be packed with Pancake Rocks, Shanty Town, Adrenaline pumping “stuff” in Queenstown, Castles, Railway Stations and Cadbury’s in Dunedin, Dolphins in Akaroa; a little bit of ‘nz familyness’ in Rangiora and finally Whales in Kaikoura….

Approximatley a bazillion (bigger than a gazillion???) photo’s are to be taken, out of which the cream of the crop will be shared with you… my eager public :)

Eggsited!!!

Tuesday, December 8th, 2009

I can’t believe it’s now less than a week until I go to thw South Island, I’m going to see some of the most scenic and amazing scenery in the world, in one of the youngest countries in the world. Officially Orc free since 2003…. ;p

In other news: I am about to go to a bowling club to play some Crown Green Bowls for our Christmas do at work….

Apartment in the City

Wednesday, November 12th, 2008

Looks like I am on the move into a little flat share in the city, all the mod-cons and close to everything, and I mean everything! I can walk to work; and fall into the place after a night on the town. I do believe I may have found my own bit of Wellingtonian Nirvana!

Obviously I’m not there yet, and I don’t want to preempt anything; so I’ll post again once things are confirmed.

Visionary Pluses!!

Thursday, October 23rd, 2008

Awesomeness….after my opticians apointment the other day my new glasses have arrived, and I am currently wearing them. Decided I needed a bit of a change; so welcome world to Mister ‘Joop’ – yup got me some Joop frames and they ROK! Don’t exactly make me look uber smart, but they do suit me fine!

In other news I am looking at a new apartment on Saturday, which is less than 1 minutes’ walk from work (how lazy am I!!!), it’s much better though because it will allow me to save money on petrol, and I can hang more with friends in town, not to mention offer a port of call for those too tanked to drive =p (safety first!)

Hope everyone has a great weekend after Friday…. this weekend will be a long weekend for us in NZ as it is Labour Weekend, wonder what folks will be getting upto?? Personally I am going to a ‘Pot Luck Dinner’ on Saturday and one of my new best mates; Caroline and then on Sunday I’ll be heading up North to levin to meet another new friend, and partake in a bit of a BBQ.

Mint!
