A curious thing…

Wednesday, May 26th, 2010

So here I am, being prudent by tidying up my list of registered users on my blog since 90% of them were BOT originated, or from the Middle-East and Russia that I have now noticed a serious drop in the amount of unwanted SPAM comments hitting my blog, I simply can’t believe this is a coincidence????

Your thoughts…

New month, new host, same old blog…oh but new name!!

Friday, December 4th, 2009

I’ve decided to change the name of my blog in line with my new host, fun!! I have moved on from ‘Bluehost’ whom I have been with since 2005. Basically I have been hit frequently by phishers which have annoyed me and caused the site to be suspended on more than one occasion. So this seemed a good catylyst for me to move onto a new package with ‘Monsterhost’ though I suspect both companies have rather close ties since the backend is almost identical!

SPAM!

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009

Over a quarter of a million SPAM hits on my site to date…. quite a statistic for a moderate blogger like me ;p It amazes me the lengths some people will go to in order to get their links, products, trojans and viruses across… I guess I should feel special that so many ‘bots’ and the odd rare individual would want to spam me in the first place =D

Twitter…

Ok….I crumbled but this is the growing trend in the world of blogging, not just personally but professionally too…it seems I am not a true geek without a ‘Twitter‘ account…

What an interesting fact!

So, the last earthquake which I felt and spoke about on this blog not only was the largest in New Zealand in 78 years, but apparently it also moved New Zealand a foot closer to Australia. According to news reports, it’s a shame this is unlikley to affect the airfare between here and there!

In other news, I am giving myself another Linux crash course this weekend. In order to make use of a redundant PC I have had as a doorstop for ages…

Mars fact!!

Tuesday, June 9th, 2009

It would appear that this is a favourite every year now, and after a little bit of digging I have confirmed that the fact is Mars will NOT appear as big as the moon this August, and also that it only ever has under the aid of a telescopic view.

Mars

KINGSIZE MARS

Fills in all the gaps for you, just remember if you receive an email in the next few days from a friend about the magnificent views of Mars this August, you can set the record straight; and educate them as to just how guillible they are! (myself included…meh!)

It was indeed a spectacularly close pass for Mars back in 2003; though this was still not close enough to rival our own moon. This year 2009, it is likley to reach 1/60th of the size of the moon – and will be best observed from the Southern Hemisphere (yay for me!!) as the brightest thing in the night skies over the next couple of months :)

In other news….I am still fighting off the black plague (fanks Rachael) though it’s my own fault so not after any sympathy…really!! Also Since this is a technical post how about a Geeky joke for you all??

“This SQL Query walks into the bar, approaches two tables and says… ‘may I join you?’….”

….sorry….

Well I never!!

So apparently back in 2007 the powers that be redefined what a megabit is…since there is some confusion as to whether it is 1000 * 1000, 1024 * 1024 or 1000 * 1024…..

This is something that completley passed me by! Guess I need to go trawling a few books again to see what else people have decided to change and re-standardise. Crikey!!

Go Figure?

Wednesday, October 8th, 2008

I just checked my blog stats and I currently have 340 subscribers! 80% of which are probably spammers…. meh!

In other news, the sun was out again today and it cheered my spirits, must admit I have felt a little melancholy this past couple of days. Yay for the sun!

laterz….
