This really, really gets me annoyed!

YOB CULTURE IN UK

It’s when you continue to read things like this, that one wonders whether the UK ought to re-introduce Corporal Punishment in Schools, Teachers need to be given the legal power to hold a level of authority in the school place, as this is largely what shapes the society we live in today. Political Correctedness, and short-sited (possibly ill educated??) politicians thinking they know what’s best for the teaching establishment, I’m not a teacher and probably never will be, but in my day you listened to the teacher, and more often than not respected them. Once you loose control of kids at a school-age level? Well I don’t know about you but that’s one step short of anarchy isn’t it?

It isn’t rocket science, it’s not about spending billions from a budget, paying some long named consultant(s) to advise the government on what to tell the schools to do (or anyone for that matter)….what’s the phrase? ‘Blind leading the blind’??

I’m lucky, I’ve left the UK. The more I read stuff like this, the more I believe I won’t be coming back – which is a shame because once upon a time I was proud of the country of my heritage. There are a good deal of young people in the UK today, that should feel thoroughly ASHAMED of themselves…it’s got nothing to do with society, and nothing to do with country pride, but SELF PRIDE!!! Behaviour like the one shown in the link shows how low youth has fallen in the UK.

If teachers don’t have the power to hold a level of auhtority, then it’s paramount that parents step up to the plate; how many parents (alas predominantley young parents) have taken the ‘well it’s not my job’ attitude? Why are kids of today behaving so badly? What is the root cause?

Is it the schooling? Is it the parenting? Is it society? Is it the Media? are we failing ourselves?

I’d like to be proud of the UK one more time, so I will hold onto the hope that as a nation it can change – it is one of the few places on this planet that has risen and fallen more than many civilisations which are but a page in a history text book now. I’d like to think there is one more rise left in us Brits! Sometimes the world needs an example. If we allow ourselves to fall to the lowest of the low (and trust me we aren’t far off); then the credibility of the UK dies. We will be consigned for ever to the history books.

My little soapbox montage is not targetted at ALL people in the UK; and unfortunatley probably the correct target groups aren’t literate enough or educated enough to read this anyway, so I apologise to all the rest. I just had to get this off my chest.
Am I the only one that feels so strongly about this?

All I can say to the UK Government is this – “Regardless of which political party holds the majority, it’s about time you guys went BACK TO BASICS!!” – cut out the spin, forget the foreign policy and the world stage for a while! Until you can get your own back yard tidy. It’s pointless grumbling at the state of next door’s!!

How many SINS does it take?

Thursday, March 13th, 2008

Apparently the Pope has decided to decree another seven sins to add onto the original seven deadly sins?!

NEW
Genetic modification
Carrying out experiments on humans
Polluting the environment
Causing social injustice
Causing poverty
Becoming obscenely wealthy
Taking drugs

ORIGINAL SEVEN
Sloth
Envy
Gluttony
Greed
Lust
Wrath
Pride

So, without even thinking about the old lets get all pedantic on the new ones eh..?

1) Genetic Modification > I guess you can kiss goodbye to any heart/limb transplants or bone marrow transplants, or blood transfusions to save lives, because you are putting someone elses genetic material inside a body, thus genetically modifying it…SINNER!!!!

2) Carrying out experiments on humans > No more GCSE’s, No more A Levels, No more Degree’s, No more Polls these are all forms of statistical experimentation on humans whether for informational purposes or to gauge intelligence…hmmm hang on this is a bad thing? SINNER!!!!

3) Polluting the environment > oh well I guess if you fart one more time, you’ll end up in the ninth circle of hell!! SINNER!!!!

4) Causing social injustice > Ok so this could be related to the last one, you fart in a public place, maybe a lift in a MALL? Boy?!!! That’s a Social Injustice alright! SINNER!!!!

5) Causing poverty > So by getting up everyday and going to work to earn a wage, you are putting someone else somewhere (probably more qualified too) out of a job thus causing poverty SINNER!!!!

6) Becoming obscenely wealthy > No wonder Bill Gates is standing down from Microsoft and given up the top spot as richest man in the world! SINNER!!!!

7) Taking drugs > “Drugs are bad m’k?” What?! you took a lemsip for you cold last night..? SINNER!!!!

But I’d argue that these new version are surplus to recquirement and simply a repetition of the older traditional sins in one form or another:

1) Genetic modification – could be tied into Envy – Does she go for the breast enlargement or the breast reduction?!

2) Carrying out experiments on humans – could be tied into Pride, Lust and Wrath depending on the mood of the torturer…(cough) I mean scientist….

3) Polluting the environment – Well simply put this is gluttony, wanting limitless energy at the cost of the ozone…

4) Causing social injustice – Again a happy mixture of Greed, Lust, and Wrath! Maybe Pride too if you took your injusticing seriously enough?

5) Causing poverty – Again Greed, Lust, Sloth, Gluttony take you pick any one of the original 7 can contribute to this

6) Becoming obscenely wealthy – Greed, Gluttony, Pride, Lust

7) Taking drugs – Sloth, Lust, Greed, Pride etc…. they all still fit!

As you can see I am taking a very dim view and have in the very posting of this commited no end of sins myself, oh well at least I am suitabley named (minus the sixes on forehead), there’s just one conundrum that has me quaking and nervous about all of this, since sinning is a very negative thing there is now a tip in the balance, 14 sins to 7 virtues….who on EARTH?! can come up with another 7 virtues to even the score????

Answers on a postcard too….

No Strings Attached…

The whole “customer care” domino effect is quite fascinating, if you greet someone in a shop pleasantly, actually give them a service and perhaps use their name once in a while, they leave feeling happier and maybe it even changes them on a deeper level. Why? It’s powerful stuff in this day and age because it is so rare!

Here’s the kicker – it doesn’t take the governement, or huge corporations to make a change in the “customer-care” world….next time YOU go to a shop, and the person servicing you (you know what I mean!! you dirty miinded lot!!) is wearing a name tag, instead of blythly taking your bags and leaving; take a small moment out of your day, and thank them personally using their name. It happens so rarely these days (especially in the UK) that you might actually make someones day, you might even change someones life profoundly. Your tiny little effort of saying a personal thank you to this person could mean the difference between another day on anti-depressants or not! I don’t jest! This is powerful stuff, and we ALL – every single one of us have the ability to make this happen. Oh and that’s not all either!!! Once in a while, if you keep doing this you might make one or two new friends? Now it’s one thing to have over a hundred friends on a site like Facebook; but a lot of the time they are just names on a virtual page and aren’t the most tangible of friends (I mean this is in the nicest possible way of course)…but if we all take away this small lesson; our very real and tangible friends could increase, and the whole social healing of the world which I think is desperatley overdue can begin.

I guess the biggest problem we; as individuals have is, we’ve gotten so used to preaching to the big people (governements, media etc…) to lead by example, that we’ve forgotten how to lead the example for ourselves. I don’t know about you? But I’m about ready to grow out of spoon-feeding; and I’m ready to move onto solids =p

I’m Numb

Wednesday, June 6th, 2007

And it’s not just the filling I had at the dentist today either.  My head is swimming, and I don’t honestly know what to think…yes I am told I am “safe” – yet people around me have been made redundant in what appears to be a very arbitrary fashion; something which you may get away with in America, but certainly not here in the UK….  I feel for all those people; for some maybe it’s a blessing in disguise, for others a downright insult for years of tireless support and dedication.

On the one hand the message being given is one of plenty, the figures are on the up, we’re out of chapter 11!!  Wooo Haar! Yet the other hand – the one so many people never quite see, like a magician suddenly reduces the head count once more (an activity almost as regular as the yearly bonus!)…

So, I am just supposed to blithley ignore all that’s going on around me and carry on working because I’m “safe” right?  Don’t rock the boat!  What boat?  Our boat sank over five years ago, we’re floundering in a life preserver and a dingy!  These latest redundancies clearly illustrate that.

All I’ve had from the management circle to date is lip service.  “We listen”, “We want your opinions and thoughts”, “We want to ENGAGE you as employees”…

So our office is due a refurb ok?  What happens? They paint the reception area “Mental Institute Brown” (and trust me I’ve seen a few, though not as an in-patient! Despite what dad may say) apparently this is the new corporate colours (oops sorry.. colors! we’re an American company see?)

So anyways, all of this is making me kinda NUMB where work is concerned, I’ve done this for a good 10 years, constantly telling myself things will change, things will get better…I guess this dingy brown reception area is my wake up call….

Help in the search for Madeline!

Friday, May 11th, 2007

MadelineHelp in the search for a girl who should be celebrating with her family tomorrow; instead of where she is right now??  Meme this message, or pass it on throughout the blogosphere and make sure the whole world hears, and maybe just maybe, a miracle can happen.

If anyone out there knows anything about the whereabouts or has seen anything or anyone that may help reunite Madeline’s parents and their missing daughter then phone CRIMESTOPPERS UK > 0800 555 111, or from outside the UK >> 0044 188373 1336

If you don’t know anything but just want to help then spread this image and message around the world.  So, that the person or people that took her get the message loud and clear….. “Return Madeline, alive and unharmed to her parents!!”

I know this is a small hope, but let’s all hope together!
